420 Nomination Papers Rejected for LG Poll

COLOMBO (News 1st); Election Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake said that approximately 420 nomination papers submitted for the upcoming local government elections have been rejected.

"The nomination process was conducted for 336 local government institutions. Out of the total number of over 2,900 nomination papers, 420 were rejected during the nomination acceptance phase. The rejection of nomination papers is carried out by the nomination board in accordance with Section 28 of the Act. Any nomination paper that does not comply with the written law is rejected under Section 31, which informs the rejection based on non-compliance with Section 28. After the nomination process is completed, we provide written notice to each rejected group, explaining the reasons for the rejection," he explained on Friday (21).
