COLOMBO (News 1st); The General Secretary of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Tilvin Silva, has announced that the party will take legal action based on the findings of the Batalanda Commission Report.
Silva made this statement during a press briefing held at the party headquarters today (18).
"The commission was not appointed by us; it was established during Chandrika's government. This report, which they had hidden, has now been presented by us. There is no need for mudslinging as there is a commission report. This report has been tabled in Parliament and is available for everyone to see. A debate is also ongoing in Parliament," said Silva.
"Recently, Ranil Wickremesinghe made a statement but did not deny the allegations against him. Additionally, many people, including those who suffered torture and even some police officers, are ready to provide evidence about the events at Batalanda. This is something that will proceed according to the law. The government will not change this for any reason. There are two types of criticism: some say this is an attempt to sling mud and seek revenge, while others believe that Ranil will not be punished and nothing will come of it. Regardless of what anyone says, we will act according to the law. We are not here to sling mud or seek revenge, but to ensure that the law is enforced. Legal action based on the Batalanda report will be taken in the future, he added.
