Warrant Issued for Arrest of Weligama Police OIC Regarding Shooting Incident

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Acting Magistrate of Matara, Attorney-at-Law Upali Ranasinghe, has issued a warrant for Weligama Police OIC Upul Kumara to be arrested and produced before court.

This warrant was issued is in connection with investigations into the shooting that occurred on December 31 2023, in front of a hotel in Pelena, Matara.

The warrant was issued after considering the facts presented in a further report by the Criminal Investigation Department regarding the shooting.

Meanwhile, a warrant was issued last Friday for the arrest of Former IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon in connection with the same incident.

Charges have been filed against him for conspiracy to commit murder.

In addition to former Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon, the court also ordered the arrest of eight suspects, including the Officer-in-Charge of the Colombo Crimes Division, Anselm de Silva, last Friday.
