Global Domination by Any Country Unacceptable; Says Russian Envoy

COLOMBO (News 1st); Levan Dzhagaryan, the Ambassador of Russia to Sri Lanka, stated that Russia's primary objective is to prevent Ukraine from becoming a leverage point against Russia, highlighting that any form of global domination by a single country is unacceptable.

Articulating Russia's stance on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and its broader geopolitical implications, he emphasized Russia's longstanding security concerns, particularly regarding NATO's military infrastructure near its borders and Ukraine's potential NATO membership.

He attributed the initiation of Russia's military operation to the failure of Western countries, especially previous American administrations, to respect these concerns.

He underscored that the conflict is not merely a Russia-Ukraine war, asserting that Russia's military capabilities far surpass those of Ukraine.

Despite multiple attempts to negotiate, including the Minsk Agreement of 2014 and the Istanbul Agreement of 2022, he claimed that Western countries and the Ukrainian government have repeatedly deceived Russia.

With the return of the Republican administration in the United States, Ambassador Dzhagaryan expressed optimism for a political settlement.

He noted that Russia has begun negotiations with the American administration, focusing not only on the Ukrainian conflict but also on normalizing bilateral relations and addressing other global issues.

Ambassador Dzhagaryan reiterated Russia's demands, which include the demilitarization of Ukraine, ensuring Ukraine's neutral status, the return of Russian historical lands, and the lifting of all sanctions. He affirmed that Russia will continue its military operations as long as necessary to achieve these objectives.
