COLOMBO (News 1st); Electricity generation costs have increased with the dry weather conditions.

Media Spokesperson of the Ceylon Electricity Board Dhammika Wimalasena stated that as a result, thermal power plants and fuel power plants have had to be operated more extensively.

Steps have been taken to operate the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant at its maximum capacity of 900 MW.

In addition, he said that the Kelanitissa Naphtha power station and the Sapugaskanda fuel power station are also currently in operation.

Hydroelectric power plants currently generate 20% of total electricity during the day and 40% at night.

The Ceylon Electricity Board stated that there is more opportunity for solar power plants to generate electricity during the day.

The CEB added that this situation will continue until next April.
