COLOMBO (News 1st): A discussion between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) is scheduled for next Thursday.
The discussion will focus on recent budget cuts to several allowances for doctors.
Media Spokesperson of the GMOA, Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe, stated that the budget includes significant amendments and cuts to doctors' allowances and leave system.
He noted that if doctors do not work after 4 p.m., it would be impossible to maintain medical services in Sri Lanka and that, even now, they are not being paid sufficiently for their work.
He further stated that such actions undermine the services rendered by doctors and discourage them.
Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe also pointed out that the reduction in allowances has negated the impact of the basic salary increase proposed for doctors in the 2025 budget.
