TRCSL to Block Unauthorized Mobile Phones with New Software

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka is urging the general public to refrain from purchasing mobile phones without the approval of the Commission.

Its Director General, Retired Air Vice Marshal Bandula Herath said that a new software system will be implemented to identify and block unauthorized mobile phones.

The Commission confirmed that all mobile phones in the country had been verified up until the 28th of January 2025, and that this issue arose from mobile phones brought into the country after the 28th, without following the proper procedures.

The TRCSL said that however, the process of blocking these unauthorized phones will not be carried out immediately.
