Court Orders Bail for Ex-Council Member in Bribery Scandal

COLOMBO (News 1st); Former Western Provincial Council member Salochana Gamage and Dushanth Dinesh Ratnayake were released on bail today by order of the Colombo Magistrate's Court.

The two were previously arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 9 million. 

The bribe was reportedly solicited to facilitate compensation for a plot of land in Torrington Avenue, Colombo, which had been acquired by the Urban Development Authority (UDA).

Following their arrest, Gamage and Ratnayake were remanded in custody but have now been granted bail.
