Suspect Remanded After Attempt to Smuggle Drugs into Prison

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A quantity of drugs, concealed in the rectum of an individual, was discovered at the Magazine Prison.

Prison Spokesperson Gamini B. Dissanayake stated that the drugs were found during a search conducted by the Prison Emergency Response and Tactical Unit officers before admitting the suspect into the prison.

The Maligakanda Magistrate's Court ordered the suspect, who brought the drugs, to be remanded.

The drugs have been handed over to the Borella Police for further legal action.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
