Parliament Set to Elect New Speaker as Party Leaders Meet Today

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A meeting of party leaders is scheduled to take place today at 1.00PM at the parliamentary premises.

The agenda for tomorrow's parliamentary session will be discussed, with several proposed amendments under consideration.

The parliamentary session will commence at 9.30 AM tomorrow. During this session, a new Speaker will be elected to fill the position left vacant by the resignation of Dr. Ashoka Ranwala.

Kushani Anusha Rohanadeera, Secretary-General of Parliament, noted that this process will follow the swearing-in of the National List MPs, who will take their oaths before the Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

The letter of resignation submitted by Dr. Ashoka Ranwala to the President will be presented to Parliament by the Secretary-General. 

Following this, the selection of a new Speaker will proceed in accordance with constitutional procedures, pending the confirmation of proposals by Members of Parliament.
