COLOMBO (News 1st) - Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption is currently investigating nearly 6,000 vehicles that were illegally imported without paying taxes and falsely registered with the Department of Motor Traffic.

The commission said that legal action is being taken regarding the identified vehicles.

The vehicles have been handed over to Customs for the collection of customs duties and other charges, with additional investigations ongoing.

To assist potential buyers, the Commission has issued guidelines to Customs to establish an online portal where individuals can verify if the import duties and charges on a vehicle have been properly paid.

Customs has launched an online portal, allowing users to check whether the vehicle they intend to purchase was legally imported and has been appropriately taxed.

By visiting www.services.customs.gov.lk/vehicles and entering the relevant information, details about vehicles imported after paying the necessary duties can be accessed.
