COLOMBO (News 1st) - A report on renewable energy projects planned to be implemented in the country has been handed over to the Ministry of Power and Energy after being studied by the committee appointed by the government.
Secretary to the Ministry, Professor Udayanga Hemapala said that the committee has prepared the report after studying about 40 projects.
The report includes several recommendations for the implementation of these projects.
These recommendations will be presented to the Cabinet for consideration.
Based on the decision made by the Cabinet of Ministers, further steps will be taken regarding the implementation of these renewable energy projects.
The Secretary to the Ministry added that according to the new Electricity Act, if these renewable energy projects are not commenced before June of the coming year, they will be deemed invalid.
The ministry also announced that the expected electricity generation capacity from these projects would exceed 250 megawatts.
