COLOMBO (News 1st) - Supreme Court Justice Murdu Fernando took oaths as the new Chief Justice of Sri Lanka this morning at a ceremony held at the President's Office.
She took oaths before President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Murdu Fernando's appointment marks a historic moment as she becomes the second female to hold the position of Chief Justice in Sri Lanka.
She is also the 48th to assume the role since the position's establishment.
The Constitutional Council recently approved her nomination to the post following the retirement of Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya.
