NEC Appoints Special Team to Tackle False Social Media Propaganda Ahead of Election

COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Election Commission has appointed a special team to investigate false propaganda spread on social media, related to the 2024 Parliamentary Election.

The team will include five officials who will monitor social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok for any false propaganda or misleading promotions related to political parties or candidates.

The Election Commission said steps will be taken to remove such posts from these social media platforms.

The Election Commission further highlighted that legal action will also be taken in cases of serious violations.
