COLOMBO (News 1st): Two women attempting illegally to smuggle a large consignment of foreign cigarettes into the country, were arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.
According to the Airport Unit of the Police Narcotics Bureau, the suspects were in possession of 391 cartons containing a total of 78,200 cigarettes. The total value of the seized cigarettes is estimated at Rs. 11,730,000.
The suspects who are a mother and daughter are residents of Gampola.
They were released on a surety of Rs. 10,000 each.
They will be produced before Negombo Magistrate’s Court on November 20th.
