COLOMBO (News 1st): According to the Disaster Management Center, a total of 12,114 people across three provinces have been affected by adverse weather conditions since November 1.
The impact has been primarily due to heavy showers, strong winds, and floods.
The Department of Meteorology has warned that showers and thundershowers in the Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces are expected to continue after 1 pm today.
The department has also cautioned that these thundershowers may be accompanied by temporarily strong winds.
The general public is urged to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
In the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am today, Mallawa in Chilaw recorded the highest rainfall in the island, with 221.6 mm.
Other areas heavily impacted by rainfall include Dummalasuriya (190.3 mm), Palavi (150.4 mm).
Kuliyapitiya, Aithmale, Palugaswewa, Elkaduwa, and Ulhitiya also received more than 100 mm of rainfall.
Additionally, the landslide warning issued for several divisional secretariats in six districts; Badulla, Kandy, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Nuwara Eliya, and Ratnapura will remain in effect until this evening.
Authorities are urging residents in these areas to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines.
