Man and Wife Arrested for Defrauding Close to 8 Billion Rupees

COLOMBO (News 1st): A man and his wife who had defrauded close to 8 billion rupees and fled the country were arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport.

The suspects were arrested by officials of the Criminal Investigation Department.

According to the Police, the suspects are alleged to have defrauded money through an illegal pyramid scheme and fled to Malaysia.

The 52-year-old suspect, Dhammika Kumara Ranasinghe, a resident of Kurunegala, fled the country after evading the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.

He arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport this morning from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
