Police Open Fire on Lorry Evading Stop

COLOMBO (News 1st): The police opened fire at a lorry that was being used to illegally transport cattle in Wawegama Suriyawewa. 

According to police, they had opened fire after the driver of the lorry had defied police orders to stop and attempted to evade the police.

The police said that eighteen cows were found in the lorry out of which two were already dead.

One suspect, a resident of Beruwala has been arrested in connection to the incident. 

The lorry used to transport the animals has been impounded.
