Arjun Aloysius Denied Bail Again in VAT Fraud Case

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo Additional Magistrate Bandara Ilangasinghe has once again rejected the bail application submitted by W.M. Mendis & Company directors Arjun Aloysius, Anthony Randev Dinendra John, who were sentenced to imprisonment for evading VAT payments amounting to 3.5 billion rupees owed to the government.

The case, filed by the Commissioner General of Inland Revenue, accused the defendants of failing to pay the VAT due between 2016 and 2019. 

On Monday, the magistrate sentenced Arjun Aloysius and the other defendants to imprisonment for not complying with the court's order to pay the outstanding VAT by November 14, 2023.

The defendants sentenced to six months were Arjun Aloysius, Anthony Randev Dinendra John and K. Prasanna Kumarasiri.
