Met Department Predicts Gradual Decrease in Rainfall

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Meteorology has forecasted a gradual decrease in the current rainy conditions over the next few days.



Ajith Wijemanna, Director of the Forecasting Division, stated that heavy rainfall of up to 100 millimeters is expected in certain areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North Western, and Northern Provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, and Trincomalee Districts.



Due to the ongoing heavy rains, landslide warnings issued for seven districts have been extended. 



The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) confirmed that these warnings remain in effect for the Colombo, Galle, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kegalle, Ratnapura, and Kurunegala Districts.



Meanwhile, Engineer Sakura Dilthara from the Hydrology Unit of the Department of Irrigation reported that minor flood conditions persist along the Gin and Nilwala rivers.
