COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ratnapura District Group Leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Hesha Withanage has addressed actress Damitha Abeyratne's recent remarks regarding her removal from the nominations list for the upcoming general elections.
Damitha Abeyratne had claimed that the decision was made disrespectfully, despite an initial show of support.
Speaking to reporters, Hesha Withanage clarified his stance, stating, "It is my responsibility to extend best wishes to anyone in our party who has the opportunity to represent our nation. I wish everyone well. However, wishing someone well is one aspect, while actively working towards securing victory for this district is another."
He emphasized that his decisions are driven by the needs and aspirations of the people in Ratnapura, asserting, "What matters to me is not my individual standing, but the well-being of the people of Ratnapura."
When questioned about the nature of the decision to remove Abeyratne, he confirmed it was not a unilateral choice. "No. This is a democratic party. In our party, we always come together to make decisions," he explained. "While executing those decisions, if there are instances where individual decisions must be made for the benefit of the people's victories, then there is nothing wrong with making those as well."
