COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Election Commission has announced that the security deposits of 35 presidential candidates will be forfeited.

Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake, stated that the forfeiture is due to the candidates' failure to secure at least 12.5% of the vote.

The overall voter turnout for the 2024 presidential election exceeded 79%.

In comparison, the voter turnout in 2019 was 83%, according to the Commissioner General.

Additionally, over 3.5 million voters did not cast their ballots in this year's presidential election.
