COLOMBO (News 1st); Dr. Harini Amarasuriya was sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka in the presence of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. Dr. Amarasuriya also took oaths as the Minister of Justice, Education, Labour, Industries, Science & Technology, Health, and Investments. Dr. Amarasuriya's appointment marks a significant milestone in Sri Lankan politics, following past female leaders such as Sirimavo Bandaranaike and Chandrika Kumaratunga. Sirimavo Bandaranaike made history as the world's first female Prime Minister in 1960, serving three terms and becoming a global symbol of female leadership. Her daughter, Chandrika Kumaratunga, later became the first female President of Sri Lanka.
