COLOMBO (News 1st): The Police Elections Bureau has announced that voting in the presidential election is proceeding peacefully, with no reports of violence so far.
A special security program has been implemented across the island to ensure the safety and integrity of the election process.
Police Spokesperson DIG and Attorney-at-Law Nihal Talduwa, confirmed that nearly 63,000 police officers have been deployed for election duties. He also noted that no conflicts have been reported so far.
In addition to the police force, the Ministry of Defense has confirmed the deployment of personnel from the three armed forces at key security locations.
The Ministry emphasized that the armed forces are prepared to deploy additional personnel as necessary to maintain order and safety.
The Ministry of Defense assured the public that all essential security measures have been implemented to facilitate an independent and free election.
