MoU Signed for LNG Supply to Kerawalapitiya

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka inked a Memorandum of Understanding with India's Petronet LNG for the development of infrastructure, including the supply of liquefied natural gas for the Sobadanavi power plant in Kerawalapitiya, which under construction. 

The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ceylon Transformer Company and India's Petronet LNG took place in Colombo.

This agreement focuses on the development of infrastructure, including the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the Sobadanavi power plant in Kerawalapitiya.

The MoU, signed in Colombo, ensures that the necessary LNG will be supplied to the Sobadhanavi plant. 

The agreement outlines plans for the storage and supply of LNG, with an interim solution involving a floating LNG storage facility until the basic infrastructure is completed.

The signing ceremony was attended by several key figures, including Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera, Deputy High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka Dr. Satyanjal Pandey, and Secretary of the Ministry of Power and Energy Dr. Sulaksha Jayawardena.

This development follows a previous agreement signed during the last government with New Fortress of America, which also included provisions for LNG supply to the Sobadanavi power plant. 

However, that project has yet to be implemented.
