COLOMBO (News 1st); Security at the Department of Government Printing has been heightened as the printing work related to the upcoming presidential election begins.

Ganga Liyanage, the Government Printer, confirmed that preliminary printing tasks directed by the Election Commission are already underway.

Liyanage stated that they have requested the Election Commission to further strengthen security measures once the ballot papers are forwarded after August 15th. 

In related news, it is estimated that if 36 presidential candidates participate in the election, the printing costs could reach up to 800 million rupees. 

The National Election Commission has announced that nominations for the presidential election will be accepted on August 15th from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Elections Secretariat. 

To ensure the security of the nomination process, the Sri Lanka Police has implemented a special security program, which includes the assistance of the Police Special Task Force.

Additionally, a special traffic plan will be in effect on the 15th around the Elections Secretariat in Rajagiriya, where the nominations will be submitted.

The number of representatives accompanying candidates to submit their nominations has been limited. 

According to Election Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake, only two individuals, including the party secretary and the presidential candidate, will be allowed to enter the nomination hall. 

Three additional representatives will be permitted to stay within the Election Secretariat.
