Hirunika Among Nominations To Fill Harin's Vacancy?

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has decided to appoint Bandulalal Bandarigoda, the former Member of Parliament for the Galle District, to the position vacated by Manusha Nanayakkara.

However, the party has yet to reach a conclusion regarding the replacement for Harin Fernando, who previously filled a seat in Parliament via the national list.

Tissa Attanayake explained that since Fernando's entry into Parliament was through the national list, his departure necessitates an appointment to fill the now-available position.

Despite the urgency, internal discussions on this matter have not yet taken place.

He noted that the national list is typically finalized post-election, and the party retains the discretion to appoint candidates from either the existing list or from outside it.

According to Attanayake, four names have been put forward for consideration. Among them is Hirunika Premachandra.

The selection process remains ongoing, with the party expected to make an announcement once internal deliberations are completed.
