No Information On 121 Sri Lankans In Ukraine - Russia War

COLOMBO (News 1st); 121 Sri Lankans involved in the Ukraine - Russia War remain unaccounted for.



Parliamentarian Gamini Valeboda disclosed that the death toll of Sri Lankans involved in the Ukraine - Russia War has tragically risen to 17, with 71 individuals currently receiving medical treatment. 



The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has initiated an investigation into the involvement of Sri Lankan citizens in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. 



A comprehensive concept paper outlining the responsibilities, mission, and tasks of the committee that was appointed to probe into the matter. has been conveyed to the Russian government through the Sri Lankan mission in Moscow.



The committee is led by the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia. 



Amid these developments, MP Gamini Valeboda confirmed that the Russian government has responded positively to the establishment of the investigative committee. 



Recently, a joint committee, including key figures such as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Tharaka Balasuriya, Members of Parliament Dayasiri Jayasekara and Gamini Valeboda, Defense Secretary Retired General Kamal Gunaratne, and former ambassador to Russia Dr. Saman Weerasinghe, engaged in a diplomatic visit to Russia.
