International Wetlands Park Assn first conference

The International Wetlands Park Association to kick off its first conference in Colombo today.

The International Wetlands Park Association is kicking off its first-ever conference for Australia, New Zealand, and Asia today in Colombo.

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena will preside over the opening ceremony.

The Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation, under the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing, will be hosting the event.

Over 100 representatives from more than 70 wetland parks across 15 countries will be participating.

The Ministry of Urban Development and Housing said six representatives from India, 18 representatives from Korea, 11 representatives from China, seven representatives from Philippines, two representatives from Myanmar, two representatives each from United Kingdom, Mongolia, Germany, and Nepal, three representatives from New Zealand, and three representatives each from Malaysia, Australia, and Japan, will be attending the conference.

According to the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing, five Wetland Park representatives from Sri Lanka, will also be attending the conference.

The representatives are also scheduled to meet with President Ranil Wickremesinghe on June 20th, where a memorandum of understanding will be signed between the Ramsar Regional Center and Diyasaru Wetland Park.

Additionally, Diyasaru Wetland Park will be officially designated as the central wetland center for Sri Lanka.
