COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's opposition leader Sajith Premadasa has announced that under a government led by him, the current International Monetary Fund-supported program will be revisited, and a new agreement will be reached.

He made this announcement during the May Day rally organized by the Samagi Jana Balavegaya, in Colombo on Wednesday (1).

Sajith Premadasa delivered a resolute message, affirming the commitment of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) to uphold promises and prioritize the welfare of the people.

"Some are going around saying that promises-based politics is no longer accepted. The SJB, in this country's 76-year democracy, is the leading party that keeps its word," asserted Premadasa.

Premadasa outlined a comprehensive vision for governance, pledging to safeguard the unitary state, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political freedom of Sri Lanka.

"Today, I come before you with a list of promises," he declared, inviting the nation to join in the SJB's pledge.

Highlighting key initiatives, Premadasa announced plans to introduce a new International Monetary Fund (IMF) program aimed at revitalizing the economy and enhancing the livelihoods of the people.

Additionally, he committed to recovering state assets and public funds lost through corruption, promising strict penalties for wrongdoers and repatriation of illicitly acquired wealth.
