Memphis Zoo mourns death of giant panda Le Le

Colombo (News1st) - Male giant panda Le Le has died after 20 years at the Memphis Zoo. There are believed to be less than 3,000 giant pandas surviving in the world and in captivity.

Le Le, who was 24 years old, was scheduled to be returned to China soon along with the zoo's female giant panda Ya Ya.

The cause of death was not known, but zoo officials said there was no indication of any illness. The lifespan of giant pandas is between 15-30 years.
