3rd unit at Lakvijaya power plant to be reconnected to national grid

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ceylon Electricity Board said the third generator of the Lakvijaya Thermal Power Plant in Norochcholai, which was disabled for maintenance work, will be added to the national grid on Thursday (30) or Friday (31).

CEB Spokesman Engineer Noel Priyantha said one operational test was completed, and it will be added to the national grid following other operational tests and related activities.

A capacity of 300 megawatts will be added to the national grid.

The third generator was due to be connected to the national grid on Wednesday (29).

At present, 63 percent of electricity is generated from hydropower plants daily, while 18 percent is generated from thermal power plants.

82 percent of electricity is generated from hydro, wind and solar power.

The water capacity of hydropower plants has increased to 96 percent at present.
