Colombo (News 1st): Sri Lankan lawmaker Uddika Premarathna escaped an assassination attempt on Sunday (17) night. Sri Lanka Police said unidentified gunmen had opened fire at the MPs car at around 10:30 PM on Sunday opposite his residence located down Airport Road in Anuradhapura.
Police said that shots were fired when the MP got out of his car, and was entering through the gate. Sri Lanka Police said the MP was unharmed in the incident.
Police added that a pistol-type weapon had been used in the shooting. News 1st correspondent said that several shots were fired targeting the rear passenger seat of the car.
The Anuradhapura Police has launched an investigation into the shooting.
