COLOMBO (News 1st) - Supreme Court Justice A.H.M.D. Nawaz has called for the judges to make decisive decisions to protect the trust reposed by the general public in the judiciary.

"The judiciary of Sri Lanka is facing several challenges. We see some people challenging the judiciary and the authority of the judiciary. At a time like this judges must make decisive decisions," he said.

"Lord Denning wrote 4 books. In the book titled Discipline of law he says that if anyone commits the offence of contempt of court, you yourself can take up that matter and punish them. They may not have insulted you, but since the authority of the judiciary has been challenged you must not think of it personally and you must punish them," he added.

The Supreme Court Justice made this statement at a book launch organized by the Kalmunai Bar in Kalmunei on Sunday (03).

The book titled 'A Commentry on the Civil Procedure Code and Civil Law in Sri lanka' written by retired High Court Judge U.L.A. Majeed was launched at the event.

Supreme Court Justice A.H.M.D. Nawaz was the chief guest at the event.
