Chamari & Vishmi help Sri Lanka crush New Zealand

COLOMBO (News 1st); A mammoth 159-run opening partnership between Chamari Athapaththu and Vishmi Gunaratne guided Sri Lanka to a comprehensive 9 wicket win over New Zealand Women in the 1st One-Day encounter in Galle.

The game is part of the ICC Women's Championship, and was reduced to 28 overs per side.

Batting first, New Zealand Women posted 170 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their 28 overs.

Amelia Kerr top scored with 40 runs, while Maddy Green chipped in with 38.

Chasing 172 runs to win as per the DLS method, Sri Lanka Women reached the target with 6 balls to spare.

Chamari Athapaththu (c) smashed an unbeaten 108 runs, while Vishmi Gunaratne contributed with 50 runs.
