COLOMBO (News 1st) - The 30th Gratiaen Prize, an unbroken record of recognising and promoting Sri Lankan writing in English, was awarded to Yudhanjaya Wijeratne and Chiranthi Rajapakse.
The Shortlist for the Gratiaen Prize were Isurinie Anuradha Mallawaarachchi for ‘Flowers Teach Me to Let Go’, Chiranthi Rajapakse ‘Keeping Time & Other Stories’, Shirani Rajapakse for ‘Samsara’ and Yudhanjaya Wijeratne for ‘The Wretched and the Damned’.
This year the 10th H.A.I. Goonetilleke Prize for translation was also awarded to Jewels, a collection of 14 short stories translated from the Sinhala by Manel Eriyagama.
The Gratiaen Trust, established in 1992 by the acclaimed novelist Michael Ondaatje, is responsible for overseeing the Gratiaen Prize.
