COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Air Force is planning to conduct the “Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya 2023" for the 24th occasion coinciding with the 72nd Anniversary of the SLAF.
The Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya or the Air Force Race is the longest running multi-day cycling tour in Sri Lanka and it was inaugurated in 1999.
The men's event will cover a total of 395 kilometers, and the women's event will a cover 85 kilometers.
This years event will commence on the 2nd of March and will go on until the 4th of March.
The press briefing on the “ Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya 2023” was held at the Air Force Headquarters.
Over one hundred male and over thirty female Sri Lankan ranking/other cyclists are expected to compete in this race. Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya is recognized as one of the premier and most thrilling events in the Sri Lankan Cycling event calendar.
The duration of the men’s race will be 3 days. It will start on 02nd March 2023 from Air Force Headquarters Colombo, passing each leg through Kandy, Polonnaruwa and finish in Anuradhapura with a distance of approximately 396 km while women’s race will commence on 04th March 2023 as a single leg event from Habarana to Anuradhapura.
The awards ceremony will be held at the SLAF Base in Anuradhapura premises on 04th March 2023 where the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana will grace the occasion with the sponsors and other distinguished guests.
