Surcharge on govt bodies for delayed water bill payment

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka's National Water Supply and Drainage Board said that Rs. 6.5 Billion in unsettled bills are pending from consumers.

Rs. 800 Million is owed by government instututions, said the Assistant General Manager of the NWDDB on Wednesday (2), adding that a special program is underway to recover these monies.

He said the recovery process will commence based on respective consumer zones.

Assistant General Manager of the NWDDB Ekanayake Weerasinghe told News 1st that the 2.5% surcharge on delayed payments from normal consumers will also apply to government institutions as well, with effect from the 1st of January 2023.
