48-hour flood warning in effect for Kelani, Kalu & Attanagalu Oya basins

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Irrigation Department has issued flood warnings for the Kelani, Kalu & Attanagalu Oya river basins. 

According to the Departement, a considerable rainfall has been occurred in these areas, and warns that by analyzing the current rainfall situation and river water levels there is a possibility of occurring a minor flood situation in the following areas; 

1. Lowline areas of Kalu Ganga valley situated in Palinda Nuwara and Bulathsinhala D/S Division within 3 to 48 hours

2. Lowline areas of Kelani River valley situated in Dehiovita, Ruwanwella, Seethawaka, Dompe, Homagama, Kaduwela, Biyagama, Kolonnawa and Wattala D/S Divisions within 3 to 48 hours

3. Lowline areas of Aththanagalu Oya and Uruwal Oya valleys situated in Diwulapitiya, Mirigama, Attanagalla, Mahara, Gampaha, Minuwangoda, Ja-ela, Katana and Wattala D/S Divisions within next 3 to 48 hours.

It is requested to pay high attention in this regards by the residents in those area and vehicle drivers running through those areas. 

Disaster Management Authorities are requested to take adequate precautions in this. In addition, there is a threat of occurring flash floods in some local areas in Kaluthara, Colombo & Gampaha districts due to the prevailing high rainfall situation.
