Youth Parliament powers to be increased

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs says that steps will be taken to increase the powers of the Sri Lankan Youth Parliament and to make it more proactive.

Minister Roshan Ranasinghe stated that a new bill has been compiled in this regard according to the instructions of the President.

Under this, the Minister stated that the young women representing the Youth Parliament will have the opportunity to participate in Sectoral Oversight Committees currently established in the Parliament.

The Minister said that he advised the Youth Parliament representatives to discuss with all  political parties currently representing the parliament and present their ideas and proposals.

20 Parliamentary Sectoral Supervisory Committees have been re-established under the Standing Orders which were amended in the Parliament recently.

Five youth representatives are able to participate in the committees.
