COLOMBO (News 1st); The Young Lawyers Association in Sri Lanka has called on for the immediate resignation of the President.

The Young Lawyers Association said that following a study on the proposals made by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka to the President it was observed that there is NO clear indication calling for the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

A statement from the Young Lawyers Association noted that the main request of the people engaged in protests, and the general public at large is for the resignation of the President, who knew that the country would face a crisis but did nothing about it.

The Young Lawyers Association urges the Bar Association of Sri Lanka that irrespective of what proposals are implemented, the people expect that these proposals be implemented under the condition that the President must step down.

Further, the Young Lawyers Association wants the BASL to consider the economic impact that the IMF conditions may have on the general public.
