Amber alert issued for severe lightning today (09)

COLOMBO (News 1st); An amber alert for severe lightening has been issued by the Department of Meteorology from 02:00 p.m. today until 11:00 p.m.

Accordingly, thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at most parts of the island, while heavy showers about 100 mm can be expected at some places in Northern, Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in Trincomalee, Galle and Matara districts.

Moreover, fairly heavy showers above 50 mm can be expected at some places elsewhere too.
