COLOMBO (News 1st); According to the latest World Happiness Report published on 18th March, which is a global ranking of 149 nations calculated on a scientific basis, Sri Lanka is placed at number 129 over a three-year period from 2018-2020.
Researchers analyze 149 countries according to a scientific basis; set against a fictional state of 'Dystopia'- which is a state where people are deeply unsatisfied, and under six categories of levels of GDP, life expectancy, generosity, social support, freedom, and corruption.
According to the report, Afghanistan is the unhappiest country at 149, while Finland remains at the top as the happiest country in the world, followed by Denmark, Switzerland and Iceland.
Although an improvement from the previous year ranking of 130, Sri Lanka ranks behind it's peers in the region such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, Maldives and Nepal, and ranks above countries such as Zimbabwe, Botswana and Rwanda.
