COLOMBO (News 1st); Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapaksa on Tuesday (8) launched the project to integrate 8 girls' schools and 2 mixed schools in to the National School system to coincide with International Women's Day.
The event was held under the 'One Thousand National Schools' program implemented by the Ministry of Education.
The nameplates for the conversion of these 10 schools into National Schools were unveiled simultaneously by the Prime Minister at from Temple Trees, via online platforms.
The following schools were added to the National School System:
Puwakdandawa Dhammapala Balika Vidyalaya, Beliatta,
Yashodhara Girls College, Bibile
Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Dompe
Mahmud Ladies College, Kalmunai
Vidyartha Maha Vidyalaya, Kekirawa
Swarna Jayanthi College, Kegalle
St. Gabriel's Girls' College, Hatton
Methodist Girls' High School, Point Pedro
Buddhist Girls' College, Dankotuwa
President's Girls' College, Walahanduwa
With the addition of 10 new National Schools, the number of National Schools in Sri Lanka will increase to 395.
Dinesh Gunawardena, Minister of Education, and Prof. Kapila Perera, Secretary to the Ministry of Education addressed the Principals, staff, and students of the respective schools through Zoom technology.
