COLOMBO (News 1st); The Government has decided to install two new generators at Samanala Wewa Hydro Power Station.

These generators are expected to last about 25-35 years supplying electricity.

The newly manufactured power stations are also expected to perform considerably better in view of the current electricity demand and during hours of extreme electricity demand as well as maintaining the system voltage in the Southern Province.

Samanala Wewa Hydro Power Station has commercially been in operation since 1992 with its established capacity of 120 MW and electricity generation of 276 hours of GW per annum.

Furthermore, the Cabinet of Ministers have approved the process for the procurement of power stations by GEC Large Machines Ltd. company of United Kingdom, which is the original equipment manufacturer.
