COLOMBO (News 1st); A foreign national, who was not identified at the time, was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport on Monday (10) when he attempted to flee to Paris via Abu Dhabi using a forged passport.
The escape attempt was foiled by Sri Lanka Police, Immigration and Emigration Officers and Airport Security.
The suspect had reached the BIA at approximately 2.45 AM on Monday (10) with the intention of traveling to Paris, France via Abu Dhabi.
The News 1st correspondent at the scene reported that the suspect had purchased an air ticket and then proceeded to the Immigration Counter, where he handed over a Seychelles Passport.
However, the immigration officers had felt suspicious over the passport and handed over the suspect to the Border Security Officer for investigation.
During the interrogation, the suspect had at once made a getaway from detention.
Security Officers had chased after the suspect to arrest him,
The suspect had attempted to climb into the vents of the airport in an attempt to hide away from security.
Thereafter, Commandos from the Sri Lanka Air Force were deployed to the site where the suspect was hiding and he was subsequently arrested.
