COLOMBO (News 1st); Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian Mujibur Rahman alleges that the India is in the process of making Sri Lanka an economic hub for the South Asian Power House.
Commenting on the Trincomalee Oil Tank Farm deal between India and Sri Lanka, the MP pointed out newspaper reports of India being interested on taking over the Trincomalee Oil Tanks and the Mattala Airport.
Speaking further, he mentioned reports with regard to India being willing to grant Sri Lanka an economic package as well.
Meanwhile, SJB MP Tissa Attanayake said that India wanted full authority over the oil tanks, and even imposed several conditions in the agreement demanding so, which is the reason for the country to make an indirect approach with an agreement.
Speaking further, the MP also cited the biggest problem as the lands located closer to the Trincomalee Harbour being handed over to the IOC, as by doing this the whole authority of the Trincomalee harbour will be given to an Indian company.
" Considering all these facts in quite evident that this is an attempt to hand over the Trincomalee Harbour to India in an Indirect manner through this agreement," he added.
