No Evidence of Forced Recruitment of Sri Lankans into Russian Military Service

COLOMBO (News 1st) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, announced today that 59 Sri Lankans have died in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. 

Speaking in Parliament, the Minister revealed that as of January 20th this year, 544 Sri Lankans have been recruited into the Russian military service.

Minister Herath clarified that there is no evidence to suggest that any individuals were forcibly recruited into the Russian military. 

He also mentioned that continuous discussions are being held with the Russian government regarding the Sri Lankans involved in the conflict.
