COLOMBO (News 1st); The Government is changing Ministry Secretaries and Presidential Secretariats to cover up their economical inabilities, alleges Samagi Jana Balawegaya Member of Parliament, Ashok Abeysinghe.
Speaking during a press conference held on Tuesday (28), the SJB member stated that the people did not want Secretary changes when they are unable to have three meals per a day and when every single sector in the country is heading towards an abyss.
Demanding as to how the CBSL Governor is able to smile and say to the media of the official reserves, which will be increased to 3.5 Billion USD by the end of the year, MP Abeysinghe pointed out that the reality is that Sri Lanka is begging for funds from various other countries while needing over 1 billion US $ to pay off the country's sovereign bonds and even to import fuel and other essential items.
" What will happen to our country if we don't have that amount of money we need? How will the people survive?," the MP questioned.
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Parliamentarian, Chandima Weerakkody requested the decision-making authorities to purchase essential items and see the situation for themselves, as the price of a rice packet has increased to the daily wage of a laborer.
" I purchased a packet of rice yesterday. There were 04 beans, a little bit of Manioc, Dhal and a piece of fish. The packet of rice was nearly Rs. 300. Then I thought to myself as to how will a daily wage labourer survive like this? How is he to provide food for his family? We need to be mindful as this situation worsens day by day," he stated.
