COLOMBO (News 1st); Ministers are begging for oil from other countries all over the world while the economic crisis worsens, says the General Secretary of the JVP Tilvin Silva.
Speaking to media, Silva said that at the moment, the Government has a total share of foreign reserves of about $ 1 billion, while a sovereign bond worth $ 500 million has to be repaid on January 8th, 2022.
Furthermore, he also stated that more than $ 6 billion will have to be paid just for loans in 2022, while there are purchases to be done as well.
By now, about 1,500 containers of essential goods brought to Sri Lanka are stuck at the Port as there is no way to issue Letters of Credit to free them due to the lack of US dollars.
